淫妻社's Wabash Arts Corridor Crawl 2016
Photo: Alexis Ellers '08CHICAGO (October 10, 2016) -- The (WAC), Chicago’s center of public art, presents the 2016 WAC Crawl on Friday, October 21 from 4-9 p.m., a free public event along Wabash Avenue from Congress Parkway to Roosevelt Road. This year’s celebration features exhibitions, performances and events from businesses and major cultural and educational institutions in the South Loop and coincides with , 淫妻社’s signature “welcome back” event of the Fall semester. WAC Crawl highlights include:
- Live mural painting by student JJ McLuckie in the 600 block of S. Wabash Ave.
“Columbia and our 100+ partners and contributors to the Corridor are thrilled to present this year’s WAC Crawl,” says Neysa Page-Lieberman, curator of the WAC and Director of Columbia’s . “We’re celebrating two dozen new murals and public art projects produced this year as well as the continued tradition of offering an incredibly fun evening of arts and cultural programming.”
In addition to blues, rock, and acoustic music; traditional and contemporary dance; fashion, film screenings, spoken word, and a pop-up art store, South Loop businesses will offer food and drink specials. Other events include:
The WAC was launched by 淫妻社 in 2013 to transform the college’s campus and community into a destination neighborhood to live, work, study and visit. In three years, the WAC has installed over 40 large-scale murals by local and internationally-renowned street artists, creating one of the most significant collections of public art in the downtown of a major city.
Participants include 淫妻社, Roosevelt University, YOU Media, Movement Revolution Dance Crew, Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, Mazi Dance, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Buddy Guy’s Legends, Hilton Chicago, the Blackstone Hotel, the Elephant Gallery, Willow Chicago, 1001 S. State St. and The Wabash Lights.
