ÒùÆÞÉç Collective Impact Series to Present “Ida B. Wells: More Than a Street, a Force for Activismâ€�
Collective Impact: Michelle Duster is a series of exhibitions, performances, and presentations that seek to explore community engagement and social justice bringing students, faculty, and the community together with renowned artists to examine what it takes to create and sustain a collective impact though arts and media. The Collective Impact initiative has been in place at ÒùÆÞÉç since 2018.
Writer, speaker, and ÒùÆÞÉç professor Michelle Duster will share her thoughts on the important work of her great grandmother Ida B. Wells who is well known for her work as a journalist and suffragist activist. Duster will discuss her great grandmother’s legacy and how it lives on through current activism, and will also discuss her new book, “Ida B. the Queen.”
Michelle Duster is an adjunct professor in Columbia’s Business and Entrepreneurship Department. She has written and edited numerous articles and books and has received many awards including the 2019 Multi-Generational Activist Award from the Illinois Human Rights Commission and the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Award from Dartmouth College.
“Ida B Wells: More Than a Street, a Force for Activism” will be taking place online on Tuesday, February 2 at 6:30 p.m.
